UNOPS Delivers a Localised Humanitarian Response to Cyclone Ditwah through Vriddhi Partners.

Last week, UNOPS Sri Lanka strengthened our efforts through Vriddhi partners to assist families returning home in the wake of Cyclone Ditwah by delivering Shelter and Non-Food Item (NFI) kits via coordinated airlifts to communities in Trincomalee, Mannar, and Mullaitivu, helping them leave evacuation centers and begin the path to normalcy.

The first airlift supported 250 vulnerable households in Trincomalee District (Kinniya, Mutur, Verugal DSD), in collaboration with Vriddhi partners - Peoples Service Council (PSC), Voluntary Organisation for Vulnerable Community Development (VOVCOD) and AHAM Humanitarian Resource Center (AHRC).

A second airlift reached another 250 households in Mannar and Mullaitivu, in collaboration with the Organisation of People for Engagement and Enterprise (OPEnE) and Jaffna Social Action Center (JSAC).

We sincerely thank the U.S Embassy Colombo for facilitating the same-day delivery of essential goods, and the British High Commission and Australian High Commission for their generous funding, which made this support possible.

UNOPS/Vriddhi, together with our partners, remains committed to supporting Sri Lanka’s recovery efforts and standing with communities as they rebuild and restore stability.
