Our representative, Fathima Hasna, presented on Mapping for Impact: Introducing Open Mapping to Civil Society in Sri Lanka and how innovations in using open data and geospatial technologies drive sustainable development, peacebuilding, and community-led impact.
She also led a hands-on workshop titled “Getting Started with QGIS: Guide to Mapping with Open Source Tools,” on trending open-source tools and techniques that enhance geospatial analysis, visualisation and database integration.

The annual State of the Map conference is a global platform that brings together the OpenStreetMap (OSM) community, humanitarian organisations, researchers, and geospatial experts for collaboration and innovation in using open mapping to tackle real-world challenges.
With this conference, UNOPS joined global peers to exchange ideas on participatory mapping, ethical data practices, and the future of open geospatial ecosystems, making the conference a valuable platform for collaboration among professionals committed to using open data for social justice.
This participation reaffirms our commitment to using technology and innovation for inclusive development - bridging digital divides, empowering communities, for lasting impact and peace.
“By equipping community partners with open ICT and GIS tools, UNOPS is helping them map their own stories - stories of resilience, collaboration, and change.” Hasna shared during her talk.
